Los Angeles Kings and the Arizona Bobcats Had a Great First Weekend of Hockey

Phoenix Arizona
August 27, 2012

This weekend our Arizona Bobcats AAA program played a total of 7 games in 3 days against one of the best programs in youth hockey, The Los Angeles Jr. kings. The Bobcats went 7 – 0 over the weekend.

“I think everyone was surprise with the intensity presented by both programs, it usually takes a few periods for the players to adjust and find their timing back” said Coach Dave Dube  “Passion and speed were definitely there when the puck dropped” remarked Dube.

“I enjoy these early high level games; it is the only way (I believe) to see who can compete at the AAA level” said Head Coach Ron Filion. “You cannot replace competition. Learning how to compete is also a skill that must be developed by all of our players. “In order for us to create a strong AAA program, one that can compete nationally, we had to recruit many top players from out of state--even one player from Russia. Weekends like this one, allow us to look at the game tape, stats and share all the information with our entire 98 & 97 group beginning each Wednesday at skill sessions. After sharing the information with the groups it should help our rookies and vets to move one step higher as a group” concluded Filion

“We have been doing early season contests since we brought Ron on board--Mike and I also believe it kicks off the season in the right direction” said 97 Coach Mahan. “Over the years our boys have become good friends with their opponents;, they play hard and then go back to being friends and the same can be said with the coaches” added Mahan.

“It was a great weekend, we played top hockey and we had the opportunity to see many of our great friends with the Kings, special thank you to Tomas Kapusta for working with us again this season” concluded Ron Filion

97 and 98 Bobcat Teams Ready for Season

Phoenix Arizona:
August 18, 2011

The hockey season 2011-12 gets under way today for the Arizona Bobcats AAA. Both the 98 and 97 teams will hit the ice tonight at Arcadia ice Arena starting at 7PM.

Over the past few weeks many of our local and out of state players have begun their school year. All out of state players got a chance to settle in with their billet families and skate a few time with their new teammates. The other are due to arrive today for their first weekend with the team.

“We have restructured our group this season to help us compete against the top programs in the country” said Mike Roswell assistant coach with the 98 Bobcats. “Our first priority this season is still player development of the number of wins, with the roster in place we should do good in both categories” remarked Coach Roswell.

“I am pleased to see that coach Ron has brought back many of last year Defenseman, they grew up well as a group, I strongly believe they are ready for this year’s challenge” said Coach Dave Dube who works with the Defensemen.

Coach Pat Mahan just like Coach Roswell has been with the program since day 1. He was a huge influence in building the Bobcats spring/summer 97 AAA program, the same program that is now recognized everywhere in the USA as a solid group of players. “I am happy that I stuck with the program’s vision;, we had some rough times the first two years” said coach Mahan. “As a parent I felt bad for my son and all of his friends who were working their hardest with no result to show for. Ron kept saying: “it takes time Pat, when their skills are ready their game will change but most importantly it will build their character.”  I am looking forward to this season, this is the strongest group that we have put together and with all the success optained last year, I am convienced we will do great” said Mahan

“Youth hockey is a lot of development, time, effort and repeating the same things over and over” said coach Filion “I agree with all my coaches regarding the level of our teams--two solid groups. Can they can win games together? This is the question they will have to answer all season” remarked Coach Ron. “Putting the team together was the easy part, making these teams winners is tough part” concluded said Filion “
